Dalles Dam, Oregon, USA

The Dalles Dam is a concrete-gravity dam spanning the Columbia River, east of the city of The Dalles, Oregon, United States. The Army Corps of Engineers commenced work on the dam in 1952 and completed it five years later. The reservoir behind the dam is named Lake Celilo and runs 39 km up the river channel, to the foot of John Day Dam.

Very Large Array (VLA), New Mexico, USA

The Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) is a radio astronomy observatory located on the Plains of San Agustin, Socorro County, New Mexico, U.S. Astronomers using the VLA have made key observations of black holes and protoplanetary disks around young stars, discovered magnetic filaments and traced complex gas motions at the Milky Way's center, probed the Universe's cosmological parameters, and provided new knowledge about the physical mechanisms that produce radio emission. The VLA stands at an elevation of 6970 ft above sea level. It is a component of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO).
